About Bakeground
Your online virtual bakery kitchen
Bakeground is an online baking simulator. Change the formula, mixing, fermentation, shaping and bake, and see the result in 3D. The name joins bake and background — a place to experiment freely before the real bake.
Why it exists
Developing a new bread or fixing a quality problem takes many test bakes. Without your own kitchen, that often means paying for a shared kitchen. Bakeground was built by a working baker to lower that cost: try “what happens if I change this?” before you fire up a real oven.
What you can do
- Quick bake: pick a bread and it bakes right away. Change one button at a time to learn cause and effect.
- Lab: fine-tune formula in grams, mixing, fermentation, 20 shaping techniques, oven stages and steam, and get a diagnosis.
- Shape it yourself: stretch, bend and cut dough on the bench to make your own shape.
Basis and limits
The calculations are a rule-based model built on baking textbooks, research and widely used trade practice. Diagnoses and values are labeled by evidence level (theory · rule of thumb · estimate), and sources are listed under “Model basis and sources” in the Lab. Real dough varies with flour, equipment and environment, so treat results as guidance.
Who runs it
Bakeground is run by one working baker. Feedback and bug reports are welcome — see Contact.
